The dead man was found floating in Lake Waubesa July 30 and was identified Sunday by his brother. It transpires that the man left Evanston to camp near here with two companions, who are not to be located here now. He had nearly $600 and other valuables on his person when he left Evanston.

Attorney Teasdale received notice from the state tax commission that they had ordered a review of equalization made by the county board of Monroe county for 1906. This is a victory for the city of Sparta, which considered itself wronged by the equalization made that year and appealed to the tax commission. Mania for Speeding. Beloit, Sept. stranger by the name of Harry Holton jumped into the touring car of E. D. Bullock, left standing in front of the latter's office, and tried to get away with it.

He showed unfamiliarity with the car, he could not get the clutch in, and as when finally he managed to get it started was easily pursued. 3, east of this city, narrowly escaped death when a large rock thrown in the air by a blast at the quarry of the Waukesha Lime and Stone company, near by, plunged through the roof of the schoolhouse and struck the floor only a few feet distant from a group of children. Will Oppose Franchise. Janesville, Sept. application of the Southern Wisconsin Railway company for a franchise to build an interurban line between Madison and Stoughton wiil be opposed by Janesville. The Janesville council and ten prominent citizens are to formulate plans for the protection of Janesville's interest before comthe railroad mission at the hearing Oct.

Madison, Sept. a result of the decision of the railway commission the "Soo" road will enter the city of Superior. The commission granted that railway 1 a certificate of public convenience and necessity and the road has won its fight over its great rivals, the Great Northern and Northern Pacific, who have fought the case for weeks before the railway board. The "Soo" will now make its fight before the Minnesota commission for entrance into Duluth and then it is believed that the line will be extended into the Mesaba iron country. Winnebago's New Poor Farm.

Neenah, Sept. county's committee on poor, which had in charge the building of the new poorhouse, met and reviewed the plans and specifications and found that the building was complete and that the contractor had followed the specifications and plans to the letter. All outstanding bills have been settled and the county now has a fine set of buildings at the farm. The appropriation made by the county board for the erection of a poorhouse was expended and it is thought that the amount expended was not more than the appropriation. During the time when the late A.

H. F. Krueger of this city was a trustee of the county asylum he caused to be set out an orchard of 100 apple trees and this year the trees, although still young, bore 500 bushels of apples, an average of five bushels to a tree. This means a saving of at leat $500 to the county, as well as a source of enjoyment to the inmates of the county buildings. Badger Cartoonist Dead.

Kenosha, Sept. Gresinger aged 40 years, formerly a cartoonist on the Toledo Blade, Boston Globe, Atlanta Constitution and other metropolitan papers, died at the Pennoyer sanitarium here after a long illness from paresis. Richland Center, Sept. Bruce Kirkpatrick of this city was killed instantly by coming in contact with an electric light wire at the home of his father. The young man attempted to turn on an electric light in a bathroom when he received the fatal shock. Make Saengerfest Plans. La Crosse, Sept.
